We are thrilled to announce that Resolven Miners Welfare has been awarded a £127,925 grant from the Welsh Government for essential improvements. This success story is truly powered by our amazing community. The total project cost of £139,925 includes £6,000 raised directly by you, our patrons, simply by enjoying a drink or attending events since we reopened in the summer. Every time you’ve raised a glass here, you’ve helped raise the roof—literally.
The Power of Volunteers and Community Support
We want to be clear: every pound spent at the Welfare goes straight back into the building and towards securing its future. This support will continue going forward and remains vital to everything we do.
Equally important is the incredible commitment shown by our volunteers, who are the reason this community effort has been possible. By opening the building, running the bar, cleaning, and doing the countless day-to-day jobs that often go unseen, they have kept the Welfare alive and welcoming. Their hard work allowed the trustees the time and space needed to focus on complex funding applications—and without that dedication, this grant would simply not have been secured.

Additional Funding and Trustee Dedication
Alongside the Welsh Government grant and the £6,000 raised through community support, part of the remaining funding comes from a previous compensation award from the Financial Ombudsman and a £2,000 community grant from the local Ffynnon Oer wind farm. We are extremely grateful for this support.
We also want to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our trustees, who have dedicated many hours to preparing and submitting multiple funding applications. Their persistence and determination have been key to making this project a reality.
What’s Next?
The funding will allow us to replace the main roof, ensuring the building remains wind- and water-tight, and to transform the former snooker room into a modern multi-purpose space for community groups, activities, and events.
We hope to begin work as soon as possible and will keep everyone updated as the project progresses. This is more than just a building project — it’s a shared achievement that shows what can be accomplished when a community comes together.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Resolven Miners Welfare. This really is your success.
